Presenter’s bio: Jimmy Widdifield, Jr., MA, LPC, is a seasoned provider of training and technical assistance (TTA) in child maltreatment, trauma, and adversity, and professional well-being. As the Project Director for Grant Training and Resources at the National Children’s Advocacy Center, Jimmy directs a federal grant that provides multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary TTA to strengthen professional development and advance the multidisciplinary coordinated response to child abuse. Jimmy has delivered TTA across the U.S. and internationally, with a focus on the research and treatment of youth with problematic sexual behavior. He is a graduate of the Interdisciplinary Training Program in Child Abuse and Neglect at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and Board member of The Athlete Survivors’ Assist.
Targeted audience: MDT facilitators, MDT members (prosecutors, law enforcement, child protection services, forensic interviewers, victim advocates, medical, mental health), CAC staff, CAC administrators. Professionals who serve children and families impacted by abuse do work that is meaningful, demanding, and emotionally intense. This work can contribute to compassion strain, burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and vicarious trauma.
Workshop description : Components for Enhancing Career Experience and Reducing Trauma, or CE-CERT, is an evidence-informed, practical, skills-based model designed to support well-being and career sustainability among professionals exposed to trauma through their work. CE-CERT moves beyond simply naming the risks of secondary trauma and burnout by offering concrete strategies that can be applied in day-to-day professional practice. This one-day, in-person training will introduce core CE-CERT concepts and skills through didactic instruction, discussion, activities, and personal application. Participants will explore strategies for reducing the toll of the work while strengthening connection, meaning, and satisfaction in their professional roles. Learning Objectives – Participants who complete this training will be able to:
- Explain the basic premise of CE-CERT and its relevance to child abuse professionals.
- Practice CE-CERT strategies that support emotional regulation, meaning-making, recovery, and sustainable engagement.
- Create a personal application plan for integrating CE-CERT skills into their professional role.
